Editorial: As Predicted, McCain Falls in the Polls
This two-minute campaign ad clearly states Barack Obama's plan to reenergize our economy. Thank God someone is addressing this issue.
In an opinion editorial previously published this week, I predicted that the roller coaster ride the economy has been on this week would cause Republican presidential candidate John McCain to fall in the polls.
"My prediction: By the end of the week, McCain's stance on the economy will cause his Palin bump in the polls to all but disappear."
According to Real Clear Politics, "one of America’s premier independent political web sites," my prediction came true. Currently, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is ahead in the polls by 1.9%, approximately the level by which he was ahead leading into the Democratic and Republican conventions. The Palin bump that McCain joined is now completely gone.
This reversal of fortune is due, in part, to Obama's strength on the issue of the economy and the popularity of his economic policy recommendations. It doesn't help McCain that his stance on the economy is ideologically similar to that of President George W. Bush, one of the parties responsible for this mess we're currently in.
The economy is something that we can all relate to. I am fortunate that I don't have any money in the stock market and that my bank is FDIC insured, but for many Americans, the tumble in the market has hit uncomfortably close to home. It is my opinion that the economy will be the deciding factor in this election. If that is true, Obama should sail to victory.

Hopefully our country will elect a patriot and someone we can trust. obama is nether.
If you don't like what I write and are afraid of opposing viewpoints, you have the right (and my blessing) to delete The Delta Dirt from from your favorites. Personally, I could care less. What I will never do is stop posting my view on the world as I see it. So delete if you must. But please don't threaten me...
You tout this as a blog that promotes all thing Greenwood and surrounding area. Your effort to promote a political candidate is misplaced and not appreciated.
I apologize for anyone visiting this site for information about Greenwood and having to sift through such one sided misinformation.
Good luck with this site hopefully you will come to your senses and refrain from inserting political propaganda where it doesn't belong but I doubt it.
Peace!
We also just conducted a poll in which the majority of the readers said they liked the new format, politics and all. They didn't say they agreed with everything on here, they just confirmed that the change from Greenwood to global was good. I live in North Carolina, so it's kind of hard for me to give you the Greenwood scoop these days.
In light of your comment regarding the "right forum," this is mine and Amy's forum. This will be a forum for whatever strikes us as worthy at the moment. We don't censor ourselves and we certainly don't let others do it. Seeing that the stock market was crashing to the ground a few days ago, I would say that was worthy of my post.
I honestly understand why you are upset. You are used to us talking about good times in Greenwood and showing pictures from around town. I don't, however, understand why you feel so personally threatened by my political editorials. It's as if you can't take the alternative point of view.
If you don't like my opinion, please tell me why you think I am wrong. I invite your comments. But you aren't going to win with me by telling me how I should run my blog and threatening to never visit again if I don't do it your way. That's not how the world works. If you don't like it, start your own blog. This one's mine.
Perhaps if Amy is so inclined she can offer an op ed. It might even increase interest and participation here. Just a thought.
But if the comments section isn't high-profile enough for you to make your case for McCain, just email your rebuttal to me (trgiii[at]gmail[dot]com) and I will be happy to publish it here.
I have opinions and so do others, but I am not keeping others from voicing theirs and I certainly would never demand that another person take my position or else.
I have enjoyed this conversation. If you want to join me on here and go "opposite" by editorial, I invite you to do so. I will, however, need to know your real name.
For the record, I read this blog pretty regularly and I don't think I've felt anything here was one-sided, biased, or unfair. I'm not an Obama supporter nor a McCain one. I don't know yet who I will vote for.
