Greenwood DD Club Promises Safe Delivery

I wonder if Webster's, the Flatland Grill or the Levee Lounge offers this program...
The brainchild of Lee Pruett and John Stewart, Greenwood's very own Drunk Driver (read: Designated Driver) Club has been transporting the boozed and befuddled for well over seven months now. Originally conceived as a 'Tipsy Taxi' service, the first idea fell through due to a lack of financial means.
Noted Pruett, "So then we just came up with the idea of approaching our circle of friends and asking them if they would be willing to drive one weekend-night every four or five weeks in exchange for not having to drive any of the other weekend-nights during that time-frame."
The idea was a quick sell and September 2005 saw the creation of the notorious DD Club with nine founding members. Since then, an additional six members have joined the ranks of Greenwood's fineset booze-hounds (myself included) to bring the total number of 'designated' drivers to fifteen.
The economics of the idea are quite simple: the more people who join the club, the less often each member is assigned to drive. And on special occasions (Christmas, New Year's Eve, Crawfish Parties, etc.), the club pitches in for a hired chauffeur. These nights usually get a little out of hand...
There is a driver every Friday and Saturday night who is responsible for hauling everyone in the club around town from 8:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. the next morning. And although the driver could potentially be transporting as many as fifteen people, rarely does the number exceed four or five.
The club is flexible and dates are swappable. If a driver has a conflict on their night, arrangements can be made with other members to resolve the conflict.
Pruett added, "We have talked about including Thursday nights into the schedule. Although it would lead to more driving at first, with the rate we are gaining members, the number would soon be back to normal."
Anyone is welcome to join the Greenwood DD Club. If you are interested, email Lee Pruett at pruettjl@bellsouth.net for more information.
