'River to the Rails' To Feature Regional Talent

River to the Rails kicks off tonight at 6 p.m. in historic Downtown Greenwood.
The River to the Rails Festival this weekend will showcase some great entertainment. On Friday, Curb Service and The Krackerjacks will perform at the Street Dance on Howard Street in Downtown Greenwood. Another band with Greenwood roots is Dova Grove, a Memphis-based jam band featuring native Greenwoodian Power Seawright on rhythm guitar and backup vocals. Dova Grove will play twice in Greenwood on Saturday.
Curb Service - Friday: Downtown at 7:00 p.m.
Greenwood's own Johnny Jennings, Charles Hall, Joe Seawright, John Elliott and Johnny Freeman make up the band known world-wide as Curb Service. The group first made a name for itself at the notorious Green Lizard parties at the home of Bo Devine, Postmaster of Sharon, Mississippi. Those were the days that made my family famous: A.K. was White Trash Queen (a real honor), Tommy Jr. was the band's unofficial business manager and Baby Brother Cascio graduated with a Master of Arts in Alligator Dancing. For a chance at re-living the Green Lizard days of old, make sure to get down on the dance floor while listening to tunes provided free of charge by the Curb Service Rock 'n' Roll Band.
The Krackerjacks - Friday: Downtown at 9:00 p.m.
The Krackerjacks, Mississippi's own "Party Band of the South," have spent twenty years developing the perfect old-time, rock and roll sound that has illicited an immense demand for this eleven-piece band. Known for their big horn sound and party-flair, the Krackerjacks have a dynamic, charismatic style that appeals to audiences of all ages. A Delta favorite, the Krackerjacks have gathered rave reviews at events such as the Mid-South Gin Show held at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, the Delta Jubilee in Clarksdale, BalloonFest in Greenwood, and OctoberFest in Cleveland. So, if you are thirsty for some upbeat, homegrown party music, come hear The Krackerjacks tonight after Curb Service.
Dova Grove - Saturday: Downtown & at Webster's
Memphis-based Dova Grove offers a new and diverse style of music with influences in southern rock, blues, bluegrass, and even pop. Their songs demonstrate thought-provoking lyrics, captivating harmonies and a strong emphasis on musicianship. From the southern sounds of the slide guitar and blues harmonica to the live rhythmic percussion, Dova Grove sets themselves apart as an innovative new band in the Mid-South. Dova Grove plays a mix of original music and covers from artists like the Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead and Jack Johnson. The five-member band contains two Delta boys, Daniel Stovall (lead guitar/harmonica) of Marks and Power Seawright (rhythm guitar) of Greenwood. Other members include Joe Egli (acoustic and lead vocals), Jonathan Leetham (drums), and Evan Murphy (bass). Come see Dova Grove downtown at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and later that night (around 9 p.m.) at Webster's Bar & Grill.
Editor's note: The Delta Dirt will be out in full-force with camera in hand to capture the festivities. Stay tuned for plenty of party pics from the celebration!
