American Idol Auditions Coming to Memphis

American Idol: Get Ready for Season 6 Auditions!

William Hung makes auditioning history with his rousing rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" on the set of American Idol 2004.

Yep, that's right, Delta songbirds. Now is your time to jump on the American Idol bandwagon that has swept through the country with such a frenzy. Season 6 auditions will be held Sunday, September 3 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.

Delta Dirt Co-Editor and American Idol fanatic, Thomas Gregory, TiVo'd every single episode of Season 5, and his poor little heart could be heard breaking for a fifty-mile radius when favorite Katharine McPhee was ousted by silver fox, Taylor Hicks (who shares my January 24 birthday I might add).

Gregory, very diplomatically I think, offers, "Rebecca Durden Seawright has a better chance than anyone at becoming America's next Idol." Thank you, Thomas, for being my biggest fan and encouraging me at all those Levee Lounge karaoke nights. You are the wind beneath my wings.

Southerners have a good track record on the show. Original winner, Kelly Clarkson, hails from Texas. Most recent Idol, Hicks, is from Birmingham. Season 2 winner, Ruben Studdard, also calls Birmingham home. Season 3 champ, Fantasia Barrino, comes from North Carolina.

I believe it's time a Mississippian is crowned America's next Idol. After all, we come from a state steeped in musical talent (think Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee "The Killer" Lewis, Faith Hill, B.B. King, Jimmy Buffet, Brandy, LeAnn Rimes, and everyone's favorite, Lance Bass of N'Sync fame).

So warm up those vocal chords, select your most fetching outfit, and head to Memphis on September 3 to help make a Mississippian our next American Idol.
