Fellow Flatlander: Joel Williams



Joel enjoys a nice glass of merlot on the patio at a recent Alluvian Happy Hour. You will find him there almost every Thursday afternoon without fail.

Joel Ellis Williams was born on July 19, 1975 to Angie and G.E. "Butch" Williams of Clinton, Miss. A transplanted Deltan originally from Clinton, Joel moved to Greenwood two years ago to work as a Hardware Technician and SQL Administrator for Viking Range Corporation. Joel is an avid hunter and amateur sport shooter and can often be seen riding the back roads of Money, Mississippi telling lavish tales of his obscure sightings of the legendary Money Bayou Wild Hog.

A 1994 graduate of Clinton High School, Joel attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and Forensics with the hopes of one day becoming a U.S. Marshall. At Southern, Joel was a proud member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He readily admits that the scariest quality he possesses is that he is a godfather and boastfully claims that he could out-snore Rip Van Winkle. He also realizes that his initials in acronym form spell the word 'JEW.'

9. Favorite alcoholic beverage: It’s a tie. Bombay Sapphire in the summer and Wild Turkey Rare Breed in the winter.
10. Rowdiest spring break? Fort Walton Beach in 1995
11. Unkept New Year’s resolutions: Most of them.
12. Most recent sport: Sporting clays. I shot 44 out of 50 clays to win the Jackson Academy fund raiser event at Kerney Park in Flora, Mississippi.
13. Alter-ego: Tool Shed
14. Embarrassing nickname: See above.
15. Recent surgery: Wisdom tooth removal

Barack Obama is the only candidate that has been successful at reaching across party lines in the presidential election. I as well have not had much to say on The Dirt. It is unfortunate that I no longer consider myself in tune with life in the Delta and can no longer comment as such. Editorial: As Predicted, McCain Falls in the Polls

This two-minute campaign ad clearly states Barack Obama's plan to reenergize our economy. Thank God someone is addressing this issue. In an opinion editorial previously published this week, I predicted that the roller coaster ride the economy has been on this week would cause Republican presidential candidate John McCain to fall in the polls. "My prediction: By the end of the week, McCain's stance on the economy will cause his Palin bump in the polls to all but disappear." According to Real Clear Politics , "one of America’s premier independent political web sites," my prediction came true. Currently, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is ahead in the polls by 1.9% , approximately the level by which he was ahead leading into the Democratic and Republican conventions.
