Weeks and Shultz to Sing for Charity at Parrot

Randy Weeks will perform his original music at The Blue Parrot this Friday.
This Friday from 7-10 p.m., two Greenwood church leaders will join forces at The Blue Parrot to raise money for Greenwood's hometown charity, The Greenwood Community Kitchen.
Billed as "Songwriter's Night Goes Gospel," the performance will feature Randy Weeks, Minister to Youth at First Presbyterian Church, and David Schultz, Music Director at St. John's United Methodist Church. They will be performing their original gospel music.
Weeks has been organizing and performing Songwriter's Night once a month at the Blue Parrot for quite some time now. I have personally experienced the event and can tell you that there is nothing more enjoyable than fine Latin cuisine coupled with an original music performance. By the end of the night, I promise that you will be clapping and singing along.
Together, the duo will perform their original gospel songs in the name of Jesus. While Schultz's original songs more closely resemble traditional gospel and contemporary Christian music, Weeks describes his style as "John Prine, Bob Dylan, and Ray Stevens collide with Jesus."
Weeks reveals his original work to be "very serious and dark," featuring such songs as "Jesus Never Lived in Carroll County" and "All Strung Out on Mount Calvary." His more lighthearted numbers will include "Jesus Christ, Buddha, Mohammed and Me," "Plastic Jesus," and my personal favorite, "God Named Ray."
"Much of my gospel music skates pretty close to the theological edge - pushes the envelope to make you see the message from a different angle," Weeks states. "In most cases, it's definitely not your Mama's gospel music."
Schultz currently has a CD on sale featuring his original works and you can purchase a copy at the Blue Parrot this Friday night. All tips to the musicians will benefit the Greenwood Community Kitchen. Additional tax-deductible donations can be made by contacting Greenwood Interfaith Ministries at (662) 455-4545.
Show starts at 7 p.m. with dinner seating on a first-come, first-served basis. For reservations or more information, call the Blue Parrot at (662) 451-9430 or visit www.threedeuces.net.
