Melton Trails Wolfe in District 1 Supervisor's Race

In preliminary reports from the Leflore County Circuit Clerk's office, Phil Wolfe appears to have defeated Floyd Melton, III in the hotly contested race for Leflore County Supervisor in District 1.

Official reports show Wolfe with 904 (55%) votes and Melton with 728 (45%), leaving a 176 vote margin. Absentee ballots have not been counted yet.

This is Wolfe's fifth election and his first time to be challenged only in the primary. He was contested in three out of his four previous races - always by one primary challenger and one general election challenger.

This is Melton's first time running for political office. Melton, a local attorney, has said he would be a better communicator and would build consensus and direct things in a more business-like manner than his opponent.

Please check back for more updates on these and other election results.
