(Exiting) Fellow Flatlander: Jeff Campbell

Jeffrey Ryan Campbell was born March 5, 1983, to Doyle Ray and Bonnie Jean Campbell in New Brockton, Ala. He spent the next 18 years of his life there, moving once, about 100 yards down the street. Jeff graduated as salutatorian in a class of 32 at New Brockton High (yes, it was public) and went to college at the University of Arkansas, where he shot on the rifle team and took ROTC courses. In 2005, he received a commission in the Army Reserve and a B.S. in Environmental, Soil, and Water Science (he thought it sounded better than Agronomy).

He spent a little time in Missouri and then Memphis before coming to Greenwood in March 2007. During his short time in Greenwood, he worked with Agriliance as a warehouse manager at their distribution center here. Jeff is a First Lieutenant, branched Engineer, in the Army Reserve. He'll be leaving Greenwood at the end of October to give active duty a try in Parkersburg, W. Va.

2. Favorite food: Anything fried, or possibly the Buffalo Chicken Po' boy at Webster's.
3. Favorite album(s): Soul Gravy, Cross Canadian Ragweed or anything by Merle Haggard.
4. Coolest road trip: Junior year in college, took off for Colorado with a friend about 11 o'clock one night. Got there at lunch the next day, met up with another friend who was a raft guide. We went on a booze cruise down the Arkansas River and spent the next few days fishing in the mountains. We nearly starved. (Trout are a LOT harder to catch than catfish).
5. Favorite book: Who reads in the Delta? But if I had to pick, I'd say "This Kind of War" by T.R. Fehrenbach. Good Korean War history, if you're into that king of thing.
6. Worst date: Not telling.
7. Favorite beverage: Miller Lite
8. Sport(s): Basketball, curling
9. Alter ego: Homer Simpson
10. Embarrassing nickname: Too many to list...
11. Religion: Methobapterian
12. Significant other: Who's asking?
13. Famous for: "WHO THE F*** IS JEFF CAMPBELL?"
14. Hobbies: Hunting, fishing, woodburning

Obama or McCain? You Decide.

Barack Obama is the only candidate that has been successful at reaching across party lines in the presidential election. I as well have not had much to say on The Dirt. It is unfortunate that I no longer consider myself in tune with life in the Delta and can no longer comment as such. My free time (what little of it I have) has also been dedicated to following both the presidential election and American Idol like a hawk. That having been said, I am not afraid to admit that my name is on Amy's list of previously sane people who are seriously considering Obama in November. Now, my consideration depends on a lot of future events to fall into place. First and foremost, Obama will have to beat Hillary for the Democratic nomination. If that were to happen, my pick between Obama and McCain would also depend on who each picks for their veep candidate. Editorial: As Predicted, McCain Falls in the Polls

This two-minute campaign ad clearly states Barack Obama's plan to reenergize our economy. Thank God someone is addressing this issue. In an opinion editorial previously published this week, I predicted that the roller coaster ride the economy has been on this week would cause Republican presidential candidate John McCain to fall in the polls. "My prediction: By the end of the week, McCain's stance on the economy will cause his Palin bump in the polls to all but disappear." According to Real Clear Politics , "one of America’s premier independent political web sites," my prediction came true. Currently, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is ahead in the polls by 1.9% , approximately the level by which he was ahead leading into the Democratic and Republican conventions.
