The Man Who Shook Obama's Hand

Suresh Chawla, Greenwood's self-proclaimed favorite Indian hotel owner, has gained a moderate amount of fame since his Delta Dirt photo op with U.S. senator and presidential hopeful Barak Obama, and subsequent publication thereof on the front page of the Greenwood Commonwealth. This is his story:

So Saturday when my wife and kids were out of town about 5 o'clock, I go to get my hair cut. And about six of my barber's friends are waiting on him ready to go out, and I'm his last hair cut of the day. And he's like, "Oh, it's OK. I don't mind waiting on one of my favorite customers."

So he gives me a shampoo and starts cutting my hair, and about half-way through, one of the guys asks if he can get some quarters. And my barber says, "Sure," and goes to get 'em out of the drawer.

And he screams when he goes to the drawer, because there's no money in it. He's been robbed. And then there's a debate about whether to call the police, and then they finally call the police. And I'm just sitting there with half my hair cut, and I feel really bad and I can't go anywhere and there's hair covering me.

We wait 30 minutes for the Greenwood Police Dept. to get there. So these two police officers walk in, and everyone starts talking over each other trying to tell them what's wrong all at the same time.

And finally one of the officers says: "Hold up! Hold up! Each one of you talk one at a time. Wait a minute – whose money is missing?"

My barber says, "Mine is."

And he says, "Ok, what happened. Wait – I gotta get a pen so I can write this down."

So the cops don't have a pen, and they all start looking around for a pen and can't find one anywhere. So I reach under my drape-thing, knocking mounds of hair all over the place, to get a pen out of my shirt pocket, and I hand it to the guy. And he just kinda stops and looks at me for a second.

And my barber starts telling his story, and the cop starts taking notes. And then he puts his hand up in front of my barber, who is justifiably distraught, and stops him from talking.

He turns and takes a hard look at me and says: "Aren't you the man who shook Obama's hand?"

If only you could have added in that one little extra detail that made this story even more HILARIOUS. I guess we at the Delta Dirt try our hardest to be PC, even though it is sometimes really hard to do, given that being not-PC is often much funnier. Regardless, nice work McCullough!
