Editorial: Is John McCain Serious?

I couldn't believe it when I read this article today. Apparently, John McCain is the only person in America that thinks that our economy is strong. I realize that he was talking about the "fundamentals" of our economy (whatever that means), but this is certainly not the message the American people need or want to hear right now.

These comments came on the very same day that Lehman Brothers declared bankruptcy (the largest investment bank to file Chapter 11 in the history of the world) , the stock price for AIG (the biggest American insurer by assets) slid into the gutter, and WaMu (the biggest U.S. savings and loan) had its credit rating cut to junk by S&P. Not to mention the Dow fell more than 500 points, the largest drop since September 11, 2001.

Pile on top of the events that happened just today the rising price of gas and food, the falling price of homes, record home foreclosures, the recent federal government bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the slipping price of the U.S. dollar in the world market, and anyone who is not in denial can clearly see that there aren't many fundamentals left in our economy.

If John McCain is going to maintain his lead over Barack Obama and win this election, he is going to have to face the music and start talking about how he is going to fix this broken economy. The fundamentals of our economy aren't strong; they are as weak as they have been in years. He needs to first admit his ignorance, second take back his statement, and third make policy recommendations that will give Americans some confidence.

My prediction: By the end of the week, McCain's stance on the economy will cause his Palin bump in the polls to all but disappear. Comment below.

Thomas et al,

I would simply like to say I am not going to touch this with a 10-foot pole. I'd simply like to buy a T-shirt that says, "This Election Sucks '08." McCain is weak, to put it mildly, and Obama is just dang scary.

I was actually happy that Ike occurred so something new could be on the news for a day and a half. Although I feel very sorry for the evacuees. :(

Do you think they'll name the next one Tina Turner...?
