New Leadership at Greenwood City Hall

Carolyn McAdams takes the oath of office to become the newest Mayor of Greenwood.

The new Greenwood City Council is sworn in at a ceremony at Greenwood City Hall.

GREENWOOD -- A new day has come for the City of Greenwood with the swearing in of Mayor Carolyn McAdams at City Hall this afternoon. Effective at 4 p.m. CST, Mayor McAdams becomes only the second female to lead the City of Greenwood, population 18,000. McAdams, an independent, won a hard fought race for the mayorship against former Mayor Sheriel Perkins, a democrat.

Although the election of McAdams came with its fair share of baseless accusations and unfounded allegations from the opposition, she remarked, "I am looking forward to working with the entire City Council and the citizens of Greenwood to move this city forward." She continued, "The only agenda will be to run this city for the benefit of our citizens."

The Council was sworn in immediately following the swearing in of Mayor McAdams. Lisa Cookston and Carl Palmer were the two new members of the Council and each spent time introducing themselves to the community and their fellow councilpersons. After the Councilpersons took the oath of office, Mayor McAdams took the time to congratulate each newly-installed councilperson with a handshake.

McAdams, a former employee of Delta Correctional Facility, won her election on a platform of racial reconciliation and bipartisanship. She becomes only the second female to lead the City of Greenwood as mayor.
